Systems analysis techniques are beginning to be applied to the geological storage of CO_2, and the use of 'FEPs' to describe the storage concept is instrumental to this technique. FEPs are features, events, and processes that are relevant to the behaviour of CO_2 in the system being assessed. A generic FEP database for the geological storage of CO_2 has been developed with the chosen FEPs included for their relevance to the long-term post-operational safety and performance of the storage system. The database is described, and its potential use as a tool in support of the development of system-level assessment models is discussed. The development of the database was funded by the European Commission as part of the IEA Weyburn CO_2 Monitoring Project.
