USING THE FLEXIBILITY OF COPPER SOLVENT EXTRACTION REAGENTS AND PLANT STAGING TO ENHANCE LEACHING AND ELECTROWINNING IN COPPER LEACH / SOLVENT EXTRACTION /ELECTROWINNING PLANTS
The plants discussed in this paper show how the flexibility of copper solvent extraction reagents, and the flexibility in copper solvent extraction plant staging, can be used to improve leaching and to improve electrowinning. It should be realized that these are not the only examples that could have been selected. Since many copper leach /SX / EW operations are entering into their later years of operation, the number of plants that have been through or will go through changes in plant staging and / or the copper SX reagent is quite large. Indeed, the large number of plants where changes in staging have taken place suggest that changes in staging for the plant be considered in the original design so that when these changes in staging eventually take place the cost and the time needed for the change will be minimal.
