This presentation summarizes several results obtained over the past years about the characterization of the fracture process zone (FPZ) in cementitious materials using acoustic emission. Localisation of events provides an insight on the size and shape of the FPZ, cracking and healing are characterized too. Finally, a novel procedure for crack detection based on the time reversal principle is described.
