摘要

Light absorption by the photosynthetic reaction center (RC) of Rhodobacter (Rb.) sphaeroides drives the formation of an electrochemical gradient of H~+ ions (protons) across the cell membrane and the generation of mobile reducing power, in the form ofquinol. In these RCs the export of reducing equivalents is achieved by double reduction of the secondary quinone, Q_B, and release of the quinol into the membrane.
