摘要

Northern boreal alluvial meadows are formed during seasonal floods in the floodplains of rivers. The decline of this habitat has been observed during recent decades, with the decline related to direct or indirect processes removing or degrading thesehabitats, with human agricultural activity and global climate change considered as indirect processes influencing the decline. The changes in the water regime of Lithuanian rivers have been observed since the beginning of the 7th decade of 20th century and a primary concern that alluvial meadows are becoming increasingly colonised by vegetation. Here, we determine the main reasons for these colonising events by considering the period and scope of water regime changes in the rivers, as well as their influence upon the decline of the alluvial meadows area.
