The precipitation of barium carbonate is carried out in a MSMPR precipitator equipped or not with a T-tube mixer. The residence time in the T-tube mixer is very small (33 and 100 ms), so in the presence of this mixing device the nucleation takes practically place in the T-tube, while the crystal growth and agglomeration - in the bulk of the stirred tank. The separation of these phenomena allows to control the size of elementary crystals and agglomerates by varying the length of the T-tube. A model taking into account nucleation, crystal growth and agglomeration is proposed. Knowing the kinetic expressions of nucleation and crystal growth, the agglomeration kernel is obtained from the experimental data. The role of T-tube mixing device on the precipitate quality is discussed.
