Due to the huge deposition of municipal solid waste, incineration has been quickly developed and applied these years in China. Because of low caloric value and high moisture content for Chinese MSW, it is difficult to keep stable combustion and low pollutants emission during MSW incineration process. A novel circulating fluidized bed incinerator was first developed by Institute for Thermal Power Engineering of Zhejiang University to incinerate Chinese MSW. The Chinese MSW characteristic analysis is presented as the development basic of CFB co-firing technology. The integrated incineration system including raw MSW pretreatment, incinerator, combustion system, ash and residue treatment system, flue gas treatment system and auto-control system, are shown as the technical view of design characteristics of the new 300t/d CFB incinerator co-firing coal and MSW. Over 15 incinerators using CFB co-firing technology from Zhejiang University has been built in China during past six years. The daily capacity for each unit is in range of 150t/d to 350t/d. From the environmental evaluating test results, the flue gas pollutants emission complies well with the national regulations. Especially the dioxins emission was controlled very well below 0.1 ng I-TEQ/Nm{sup}3. In present, it proves that the CFB co-firing technology developed by Zhejiang University is one of the most suitable and applicable choices for thermal disposal of Chinese MSW.
