Sandia National Laboratories has developed an experimental procedure for characterizing the input and transfer impedance functions of flight test units. Admittance relations that describe the force-acceleration relations can be derived from this procedure and used for a variety of purposes ranging from environmental response prediction to substructure coupling and numerical model validation. The theoretical developments described herein have been developed using substructure coupling methods. The method allows characterization in six degrees of freedom as well as the removal of fixture effects from the measured frequency response functions. This paper describes the basic theory, presents a numerical validation of the procedure, and illustrates a complete experimental example.
