Industrial areas created in the sea near a sandy coast are often constructed as large sand bodies protected by a seawall. Geocontainers may be used as bunds for the creation of a steep slope of the sand body and to become the inner part of the seawall. Geocontainers are only feasible if they can be placed accurately enough, if they do not burst during placement and if they are stable enough under moderate wave loading. These three issues have been studied by means of laboratory research, field measurements and the development of mathematical expressions to simulate geocontainer behaviour. The results of this research are discussed. Geocontainers appear to be feasible under certain conditions.
