The media and policy makers often quote a fully integrated transport system as the answer to all our transport problems. If so, how will it operate and will all modes be included? Can current legislation assist or hinder the process of integration? Do we require new technologies to fully exploit the concept? Can integration work in a deregulated market place? These are some of the questions Angus Transport Forum are trying to resolve. The problems faced in achieving a fully integrated public transport system are not unique to the UK. Angus Transport Forum is a partner in the FAMS (Flexible Agency for collective demand responsive Mobility Services) consortium that also consists of Italian Bus Companies SITA and ATAF, two software providers Mobisoft (Finland) and Softeco Sismat SpA (Italy), two IT and Transport Consultancy Companies Memex Srl (Italy), ETTS (Ireland) and Newcastle University, Transport Operations Research Group. The project seeks to maximise the use of all existing public transport resources in the area, to produce a flexible, user-friendly integrated service. New technologies such as GPS, telematics, real time scheduling and booking systems are also being used in the project.
