Pre-concentration of uranium ore using a radiometric ore sorter has far reaching economic and environmental benefits. Increasing the grade of the plant feed has the obvious benefit of reduced power, crushing, tailing pumping and acid requirements, but there are many secondary benefits including: Improved flexibility and scope for the increase in production rate due to reduced plant requirements. Reduced wet tailing dam requirements. Reduced decommissioning costs due to reduced tailings and high grade waste dumps. The modern HMI and electronics systems require less operator input and low downtime and maintenance while increasing throughput and grade ensures that high levels of production can be achieved with the installation of a sorting plant.
