COREX process has obvious advantages in environment protection but still has some disadvantages, for example, the content of sulfur in hot metal is high and fluctuant severely. In the present work, the effects of the slag ratio (SR), temperature of hot metal (HM), binary basicity (R_2) and the ratio of MgO/Al_2O_3 of the slag on the sulfur content in hot metal are investigated. Correlation analysis and regression analysis are used to analyze the qualitative and quantitative relationships between operation parameters and sulfur content of hot metal based on actual plant data. Experiments are conducted to verify and develop it. Considering interactions between the slag and hot metal, experimental results shows that the sulfur content of hot metal has negative correlations with slag ratio, temperature of HM and R_2. The suggested suitable ranges of R_2 and MgO/Al_2O_3 of the slag for COREX-3000 are 1.20-1.35 and 0.80-0.90, respectively.
