The minimum coke consumption for the blast furnace could be achieved by injection of coal gasification products instead of PCI and other coke substitutes. This method has the following advantages: increase in coal rate; lower grade coals usage without grinding; gas de-sulphurization; coal ash fluxing and removing. Coal gasifiers attached to the blast furnaces tuyeres were successfully tested at industrial scale. The usage of coal gasifiers with conversion of blast furnace into the two-zone furnace allows complete coke elimination. The arched roof separates stack and hearth. Direct reduction occurs in the upper zone and the bottom zone plays the smelter's role. Coal gasifiers supply the hot reducing gases into the hearth then follow their passage to the reduction shaft.
