During long-term production with high PCR, keeping active hearth condition of large blast furnace is very important for achieving long campaign life even with maintaining high productivity. In this paper, the reasons causing the temperature of the hearth sidewall rises several times, the relationship between hearth wall temperature, hearth bottom temperature and hearth active condition was analyzed and the operation practice on control of sidewall erosion was summarized, for No.2BF in Baosteel. The operation results showed that the center coke charging, keeping strong center gas flow, increasing tuyere blast energy, adjusting the usage mode of titanium ore, increasing temperature of hearth bottom, were effective measures for improving hearth deadman inactivity and controlling further erosion of hearth sidewall.
