摘要

Parasites transmitted by vector insects recognize and infect specific tissues or cells of a specific vector species. Parasites express vector infective stage specific molecules that may interact with host cellular molecules. These specialized molecular mechanisms are believed to be essential for parasite infection and transmission by a vector. Mechanisms of host-parasite interactions are not well understood and species and tissue specificities cannot be explained well at the molecular level. We have analyzed malarial parasite proteins essential for invasion into host mosquito midgut cells in the rodent malaria, P. berghei. Some genes selected from ookinete ESTs were disrupted and their phenotypes analyzed. We found several molecules such as CTRP, CDPK, MAOP and CelTOS that function in parasite infection in the midgut epithelial cells.
