This paper reports sequential variations in the ultrastructure of Leishmania chagasi during its in vitro development. The number and area of mitochon-drial profiles and cristae were estimated. The multivariate data processing proved decrease in the number of both mitochondrial profiles and mitochon-drial cristae; otherwise, the area of the mitochondrial profiles increases during the parasite development. The multivariate data handed out provide evidence establishing a dynamic change in the ultrastructure of the mitochondrion of L. chagasi during its in vitro cultivation.
