While investigating forest soils, the age of the forest stand is a very important factor. In young forests the organic and humus horizons are poorly developed and have been still going through continuous transformations. With time not only the resources grow but also, proportionally, the amount of matter, which undergoes decomposition every year, increases. When the ecosystem reaches its equilibrium between the inflow and decomposition a further increase in resources will not take place. The aim of the present paper was to define the effect of the oak forest age on the properties of organic matter and spectrometric properties of humic acids (HAs).
