Oxygen and moisture sensitive complexes like metallocene catalysts were analyzed using APCI and APPI ionization sources. Two introduction methods are presented: one with a direct introduction into the mass spectrometer and one with a glove box connected to the mass spectrometer. Degradation products are observed with a higher ionization yield with APPI thanks to toluene acting as dopant. CID fragments in gas phase which react with trace of water in the mass spectrometer are only observed with APCI. The first analysis of metallocene by ion mobility mass spectrometry was shown. Isomeric information can be obtained for this type of catalyst.
