Mobile Monitoring and Center-navigation Technology for Agricultural Machinery

The machinery and farmland are separated in many areas in China, machinery belongs to agricultural organizations and farmland owned by other farmers. As the separated ownership of machinery and farmland and the strong timeliness of agricultural production, agricultural machinery need to be allocated, monitored, and dispatched rationally and effectively. Research shows that the agricultural organization would divide the machinery into several teams before operation, and each team would be responsiblefor one district. The headman manages the whole process of the operation of his team outdoors, including monitoring, dispatching, fault detection, and machinery transitions. So mobile monitoring and commanding technology for headman is badly in need. Themobile monitoring and center-navigation technology system was designed and developed based on GNSS, WebGIS, and mobile communications technology. The system includes three levels. The top level faces to advanced managers who need to monitor, command, and navigate all the agricultural machinery, as well as doing statistical analysis of the agricultural operations. The middle level based on Tablet PC faces to middle-level managers, such as the headman mentioned above, who need to monitor, command, and navigate the team anytime and anywhere. The bottom level of the system faces to tractor drivers, which realizes position reporting, autonomous navigation, center navigation, voice calls, and information exchange through the GPS terminals and BeiDou/GPS terminals equipped on the tractors. The system has been experimented in Pinggu, Shunyi, and Fangshan in Beijing, China, since 2011. The results show that the three-level-system can improve the efficiency of agricultural management significantly. Beidou/GPSterminal has good precision and can well be used for positioning and monitoring.
