The air pollutant emission by the enlargement of farm size and the active utilization of large farm machinery is inevitable. Previous studies have investigated the quantitative evaluation for the air pollutant emission based on the life cycle assessment of public transport and heavy vehicles. However, it does not exceed the limit of the qualitative assessment for agricultural machinery. The usage of farm machinery for crop production is universal phenomenon, therefore, it is necessary to investigatethe quantitative assessment for greenhouse gas and air pollutant emission due to farm machinery use in terms of life cycle assessment. In addition, it is required to represent the optimal combination of farm machinery with minimal air pollutant emissionon the assumption that every combination of farm machinery over time is decided by farmers. Therefore, this study aimed at 1) assess the amount of greenhouse gas and air pollutant emission due to farm machinery use throughout the year, 2) derive the optimal combination of farm machinery for minimal emission of air pollutant during the crop production process. The scope and method of this study included the survey of air pollutant emission when every combination of farm machinery is used for 1 ha-paddy farming work.
