To identify the difference in runoff from watersheds of different scales is an important issue in hydrological science. The hydrologic data of Qiaozi West Watershed (QW, 1.09 km2), Lvergou Watershed (LEG, 12.01 km2) and Luoyugou Watershed (LYG, 72.79km2), collected from 1987 to 2010, were used to investigate the difference in runoff volumes from the watersheds at different time scales (annual scale and on event basis). According to the characteristic of the annual precipitation series, the study period was divided into four sub-periods, namely PI (1987—1993), P2 (1994—2002), P3 (2003—2007) and P4 (2008—2010). The precipitations had no significant difference between the average annual precipitation during PI and P3, but they were significantly higher than that during P2 and P4. The results indicated that there was the effect of spatial scale on the runoff from the watersheds. It is found that the annual runoff coefficients of watersheds increase with watershed size. There was no significant difference for the event-based runoff coefficients among QW, LEG and LYG. There were good rainfall-runoff relationships in the watersheds. The results can be used to improve the hydrological modeling.
