NLOS signal detection based on the signal characteristics in dense urban environment

The non-line-of-sight (NLOS) signal is one of the most important interferences for global navigation satellite system (GNSS) positioning applications in the dense urban environment. Targeting on the GNSS applications for the portable terminals, a novel NLOS detection algorithm based on the signal characteristics is proposed to improve the positioning accuracy. The algorithm includes three main steps which are rough detection, positioning and fine detection. The signal characteristics used in the paper are signal strength attenuation, difference between integrated Doppler and pseudorange, and pseudorange residual. In the experiment, the detection accuracy for LOS signal is 88.2%, and the accuracy for NLOS signal is 91.6%. In addition, the mean positioning accuracy has been improved from 38.72m to 13.47m by using the proposed method.
