The mountainous region is with a vast territory and the landform is various in China. The style and the characteristic of the upland city is different from the plain city completely. The upland city is usually constructed between the river and the mountain. Mountain, river and city are in harmony and have its own view and characteristic. How to figure the night view of the upland city? According to the lighting programming of Chongqing, Panzhihua (Sichuan Province), Zhuhai (Guangdong Province), we searched the method of the night view programming of the upland city. Chongqing that has constructed for 3000 years, is the forth Municipality directly under the Central Government of China. The number of population is 23 millions. The center of the city is a penisular that surrounded by the Changjiang River and Jialing River. Mountains and buildings are layer upon layer.The modality of the space is abundance. Panzhiua is an industrial city, lies in the southwest canyon of Sichuan Province. Several rivers gather together here and the landform is various. The altitude of the city is about 1200 meters. Zhuhai is a seashore city in the south and it is one of the pioneer special economic zones. The highest altitude of the city is 274 meters. The city is crossed by rivers and it is face the South China Sea. According to the night view programming of these three cities, we concluded that the keystone of the night view programming of upland cities should standout the city's third dimension, hiberarchy and the contour line of mountain, horizon and water. We should make good use of the elements that has built the view, such as mountain, water, road, bridge, boat and so on. We should use point, line, side and system tacts intergratedly, such as solid side demixing, plane sub area, luminance classification, road and bridge connection, mountain and water set off each other, the false and true contrast, dynamic state and static state connection, and so on. Then we can build a special night view of upland city that mountain, city, water, light and shadow set off each other.
