摘要

Chloroform (CF) is a potent inhibitor of anaerobic microbial activity, including chlororespiration. As a consequence of direct discharge and reductive dechlorination of carbon tetrachloride (CT), CF is a co-contaminant at many hazardous waste sites. Removal of CF is a prerequisite for initiating reductive dechlorination of chlorinated ethenes. The strategy most often used for anaerobic biodegradation of CF is biostimula- tion. CF undergoes dechlorination by substitution to carbon monoxide and reductive dechlorination to dichloromethane, both of which undergo further degradation at rela- tively rapid rates. Addition of corrinoids (e.g., vitamin B12) accelerates the rate of trans- formation and favors substitution reactions over reductive dechlorination.
