The involvement of NADPH oxidase in wheat seeds germination and early growth were investigated in the present study. Treatment of NADPH oxidase inhibitor (diphenyliodonium chloride DPI, 20muM) induced a marked inhibition in seedling growth. H_2O_2 could partially overcome the negative effect of DPI. Addition of Ca~(2+) and SNP could enhance the activity of NADPH oxidase and seed vigor and alleviate oxidation damage. In conclusion, NADPH oxidase is regulated by Ca~(2+) and NO, and plays an essential role in wheat germination and early growth.
