In order to improve river ecology and to maintain the continuity of a river's course, a normal concrete Sabo dams has been reconstructed as a slit-type Sabo dam. In the hydraulic design of the slit-type Sabo dam, two stilling basins were designed as in the case of the Sabo dam without slit.But, the flow characteristics in the stilling basins have not been studied, and the effect of the slit on flow characteristics in stilling basin has not been accounted for. For hydraulic design on the energy dissipator of slit-type Sabo dams, it is important to clarify the flow characteristics of the first and second stilling basins. In this paper, the flow condition in the first and second stilling basins of slit-type Sabo dams based on the present design manual has been made clear. The hydraulic condition required to form the jump in two stilling basins has been made clear. In order that the jump is always formed in two stilling basins within the design discharge, the length of the stilling basin has been proposed.
