A highly thermally stable phosphorus flame retardant was developed for semi-aromatic polyamides. The new phosphorus flame retardant belongs to the family of phosphinates. It possesses outstanding thermal stability and meets the high temperature requirement of processing semi-aromtic polyamides. It aslo shows high efficiency of flame retardancy. At 15% loading, it enabled semi-aromatic polyamides to achieve a UL-94 V-0 rating at 0.8mm.
