Chlorine demand is greatly infuenced by economic growth, and is particularly tied to long-term durable goods and construction. Cars, appliances, housing and infrastructure construction consume much of the chlorine produced globally. Developed and export-oriented economies use chlorine as a key building-block chemical that enables a wide array of consumer and infrastructure products. In developing economies, chlorine and its derivatives improve the quality of life by reducing disease and improving basic sanitation and water systems. Demand for chlorine derivatives was greatly impacted by the economic recession, but is now on a good recovery path.
