The polypropylene industry is undergoing a number of changes, that are challenging our traditional way of looking at the business. Whereas in the past we would think of PP as a cheap, versatile and fast growing material, nowadays we are having to deal with PP's high costs, high prices and diminished growth potential. The culprit is propylene, a feedstock that is becoming more precious and is rising in cost; polypropylene cannot do anything but follow the trend. This paper will review the changes in the prevailing views of the industry and how those changes will affect your business. We will explore how proftability is changing, where growth in demand should be expected and how the changes in market dynamics are creating both opportunities and challenges. We will analyze potential defensive market moves like imported fnished goods and how companies may enjoy better returns in their PP sales.
