摘要

Over 15 million, units of blood are transfused per year in the United States. Many of which are used in the care of the severely injured and critically ill patient. No one will argue with the fact that red blood cell (RBC) transfusion is indicated forpatients with hemorrhagic shock and hemodynamic instability. Most of the recent literature on damage control hematology during hemorrhagic shock demonstrates reduced complications, improved blood utilization and most importantly a survival benefit whenan appropriate ratio of blood to blood products are utilized early in the trauma resuscitation.
