摘要

Serotonin (5-Hydroxytryptamine [5-HT]) receptors belong to the G-protein mediated receptor super-family. Their metabolic effects on neural, muscular, and endothelial tissues are well known. However, their role in bone is not well defined. Recently, both 5-HT and 5-Hydroxytryptamine transporter (5-HTT) have been identified in human and rat osteoblasts and osteocytes. These observations suggest that these proteins could be present and play a role in bone cancers. The purpose of this study was to determine if the 5-HT receptor system is present in canine osteosarcoma (OSA) cells and its potential as a novel therapeutic target.
