摘要

The hyporheic zone, the dynamic interface between surface and subsurface waters, is of major significance for stream functioning (BOULTON et al. 1998), but many anthropogenic activities are likely to alter exchanges through this interface (BRUNKE & GONSER 1997, HANCOCK 2002). For instance, dams and regulations have induced incision of bed-sediments in many European rivers (BRAVARD et al. 1997) that causes changes in sediment grain size and distribution (e.g., surface pavement and reduction of fine sediment contents) and the hydraulic connection between surface and subsurface compartments (e.g., increase in surface water infiltration). These physical changes may have consequences on the composition (taxonomic and functional) and vertical distribution of invertebrate assemblages inhabiting this zone. Few attempts have been made to use functional classifications to assess the integrity of the hyporheic faunal assemblages (CLARET et al. 1999, BOULTON 2000), although species traits have been widely used as monitoring and management tools in surface ecosystems (e.g., DOLEDEC et al. 1999, 2006, USSEGLIO-POLATERA et al. 2000, STATZNER et al. 2001). In this study, we focused on the vertical distributions of invertebrates in 2 riffles, a reference and an eroded, considering abundance, richness, and functional traits (groundwater habitat affinity and trophic groups; CLARET et al. 1999) to assess potential impact of incision on surface-subsurface interactions.
