摘要

In the last few years besides monitoring AIDS disease (with participation to International Conferences, including AIDS Vaccine Meeting), the AIDS and Infectious Diseases PMP focused on emerging diseases. Since the establishment of the AIDS and Infectious Disease PMP, the focus has been on pathogens of risk group 3 and 4. Those pathogens are dangerous and exotic agents (to be handled at BSL-3/4) that pose a high individual risk of aerosol-transmitted laboratory infections, cause severe to fatal disease in humans for which vaccines or other treatments are not available, such as HIV, Bolivian and Argentine hemorrhagic fevers, Marburg virus, Ebola virus, Lassa virus, Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever, smallpox, and various other hemorrhagic diseases. In 1999, a statement by the WFS PMP on AIDS and Infectious Diseases on the urgency of an AIDS Vaccine was elaborated and signed by the most prominent scientists in the field, including Bob Gallo and Luc Montainger. Since 2004 the AID PMP has been monitoring the Avian flu epidemic and a specific session was held at Erice within the context of the 2005 Planetary Emergency Seminars.
