The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of early alveolar bone grafting in patients aged younger than 8 years. The treatment group consisted of 15 patients with cleft lip and alveolus. The mean age at the time of surgery was 6 years 8 months, and the mean follow-up period after grafting was 6 years 1 month. A proper overjet was achieved in 14 of the 15 patients by orthodontic treatment after grafting. The results indicate that early alveolar bone grafting in patients with cleft lip and alveolus does not appear to be less effective in patients aged younger than 8 years.
