摘要

The objective of this observational study is to apply the Bromage score to test the concurrent motor block in spinal anaesthesia as a way of assessing sensory levels. Forty pregnant women at term (ASA 1 -2) undergoing elective Caesarean delivery were assigned to receive a spinal injection consisting of 8-9 mg hyperbaric bupivacaine with fentanyl 25 meg in the right lateral position. The Bromage score and sensory levels to cold was tested at 30 second intervals followed by a visual pain score assessment at incision of the skin and delivery of the baby. We found that 94.7% of those with a Bromage 3 had sensory level to cold at T5 and above. 100% of patients had a pain score of 0 at skin incision and 97.4% at delivery of baby which showed that achieving Bromage 3 was associated with adequate analgesia. The median time taken to reach both Bromage 3 and T5 was similar (90 seconds) and did not delay the commencement of surgery.
