摘要

Objective: to review the chnical signs, classification, treatment and effects of acupuncture in cervical spine injury (CSI) in dogs. Design: Retrospective study evaluating the approach ofi^onservative acupuncture treatment for animals with cervical spine disease using medical data of the Acupuncture Service of the University of Sao Paulo State from 2005-2010. The medical data of sixty eight dogs with longstanding, severe clinical signs of cervical spine disease, aging between 2 to 14 years old was evaluated. Procedures: Cervical spine injury was classified according to the neurological signs using a score ranging from I (less severe) to VI (severe) adapted by the authors. The cause of the cervical spine injury was also evaluated, dividing it into trauma, cervical disc disease, tumor, wobbler syndrome and atlantoaxial subluxation. Results: The neurological improvement rates obtained were: 87.5% (traumatic); 79.5% (degenerative disc disease); 50% (Wobbler Syndrome), 20% (atlanto-axial subluxation) and 0% in tumor patients. Clinical improvement and treatment success was more associated with the main etiology than the neurological presentation. Animals with tumor. Wobbler syndrome and atlantoaxial subluxation had a worse outcomes compared with those animals with cervical trauma or degenerative disc disease. Conclusions and Clinical Relevance: Contrary to current available literature, our findings suggested that even patients with neurological deficits can be treated with acupuncture with good clinical results in degenerative and traumatic diseases. Patients with Wobbler Syndrome, atlanto-axial subluxation and tumors should be considered to others treatments modalities.
