Despite its high earthquake threat, an important portion of existing building stock in Turkey is susceptible to earthquake-induced damage. This study aims to investigate vulnerability of existing low and mid-rise RC buildings in Turkey or similar countries by using fragility curves and evaluate the affecting factors. Based on outcomes of a detailed inventory study, models representing the existing building stock are established. Capacity curves of investigated building sets are determined by nonlinear static analyses. Using 96 capacity curves and nonlinear response history analyses with 292 earthquake records fragility curves are obtained for different cases. The considered parameters are the number of stories, building code as being modern or pre-modern, lateral steel amount and detailing, and material quality. Based on the fragility curves observations and evaluations about the considered parameters and seismic performance of the buildings are made.
