The purpose of this study is to analyze the family differentiation in adolescence, adopting a family perspective. During adolescence, differentiation is a crucial process of family relationships, related to the ability of family system to favor or hinder individuation, conceptualized as a bidimensional construct, composed of individuality and connectedness. Ten Italian family triads (father, mother, and one adolescent child) are observed and videotaped during a Family Interaction Task. Globally, results suggest that in the family differentiation processes both dimensions are presented with a different salience.
