Electrolysis of water produces two types of water: electrolyzed reduced water (ERW) in the cathode site and electrolyzed oxidized water (EOW) in the anode site. ERW has attracted much attention because of its therapeutical effects. ERW has been shownto exhibit inhibitory effects on pancreatic cell damage in HIT-T15 cells and anti-diabetic effects on type 2 diabetes model mice (db/db). ERW reduced hemodialysis-induced oxidative stress in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients Shirahata et al. firstdemonstrated that ERW exhibiting high pH, low dissolved oxygen, and extremely high dissolved molecular hydrogen showed ROS scavenging activity and protected oxidative damage to DNA.
