The Loxahatchee River District (LRD) has been a model utility for environmental protection and efficient use of natural resources since its inception in 1971. Located in Jupiter, Florida the LRD is surrounded by one of two national wild and scenic rivers in the State of Florida and is responsible for the protection and preservation of the beautiful Loxahatchee River. The River consists of a cypress dominated floodplain (through the designated wild and scenic portion) and includes freshwater hammock, mangrove swamp, seagrass beds, and coastal dune habitat. The watershed includes 260 square miles located in northern Palm Beach County and southern Martin County.
