Electro-hydraulic actuating systems are have wide range of applications due to their capability of imparting large forces and precision control. The present work deals with the design of a feedback-feedforward controller for a simple electro-hydraulic system. The feedforward control profile has been generated using the solution of the nonlinear model of the system. A Luenberger Observer has been constructed for computing all the states from the piston displacement feedback based on a linearized system model. The pressures in the two chambers within the cylinder are estimated using a disturbance observer. Each of these estimates has been multiplied by a suitable gains, obtained by the pole-placement technique, and then added together providing the feedback component of the control signal. The success of the controller design has been demonstrated for tracking different motions of the piston. All simulations have been carried out in MATLAB-SIMULINK.
