The goals of this project were to assist the Division in (1) collecting and analysing usage and retrieval data from various datasets evaluating outputs, (2) using outputs and datasets to create an outline for an Access (ultimately SQL) database, and (3) using the resultant data for providing recommendations to guide marketing efforts to end users. Overall findings can be discussed in the context of these three goals. With regard to data collection and analysis and the resulting database design, numerous discussions between the Information Institute and the Division revealed the need for both county-level and statewide data, as well as a database that could support complex query design. Information Institute staff initially collected, compiled, and arranged statewide datasets into a relational database design using Microsoft Access. The project team (including Division staff) determined that county-level data was needed instead, so Information Institute staff revised the database elements and design, but Access was not able to support the type of database structure needed, so Division staff imported the database into SQL.
