From 1992 to 2008 in the 2nd Department of General and Oncological Surgery, Medical University Wroclaw, we treated 91 patients with early gastric cancer. All tumors were classified according to the macroscopic and microscopic criteria according to Japanese Classification. In our clinical material 43 cases classified as type IIc, 22 cases as type I, 20 cases as type III and 6 cases as type IIa. Our surgical model of treatment is open surgery. The decision making subtotal or total gastrectomy was dependent of tumor localization. We performed 31 total and 60 subtotal gastrectomy. In all cases we performed incompleted D2-lymphadenectomy.In mucosal cancer we found in 8% patients and in 14% patients with submucosal tumors lymph node metastases. Of the subjected 91 patients 77 are still alive. One patient died due to ovarian cancer three years after the operation. 13 patients died naturally not for the disease recurrence. We observe not serious complications after treatment.
