New nonlinear optical Tetra aqua bis (hydrogen maleato) cobalt II (THMC) compound was synthesized and single crystals were grown by slow evaporation method. Single crystal XRD data of the grown THMC crystal confirms that the crystal belongs to the monoclinic crystal system with P1 space group. The vibrational bands present in the FTIR spectrum of the compound supports the chemical structure of the compound. The UV-Vis spectrum reveals that the crystal is transparent in the entire visible region with lower cut-off wavelength 351 nm. Thermal analysis (TGA and DTA) predicts the thermal stability and decomposition of the compound. The dielectric responses of the crystal at different temperatures were studied with respect to frequency. The NLO property of the grown crystal was confirmed by Kurtz-Perry Powder SHG technique. The measured laser damage threshold value of THMC is higher than urea and KDP.
