This paper describes an expert system based on a finite state machine. In use, at anytime the expert system is waiting for a question. The contents of the question willdepend on the answers to previous questions. This is similar in concept to a statemachine. The expert system is implemented in Turbo Pascal using a "Table Driven"approach for the knowledge, in the form of a state table and a large number of textfiles or programs. By providing the capability to shell to DOS and run externalprograms as well as outputting text files, a powerful yet simple tool has been created.
