Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) has drawn burgeoning attention in the past decades because of its low working temperature, compact construction and higher current density. Even though these advantages make PEMFC an ideal candidate for stationary and transportation applications, the requirement of precious metal as catalyst, such as platinum (Pt), limits the cost effectiveness of PEMFC. This study aims to further reduce Pt loading in PEMFC, while increasing the durability and conductivity of the membrane, by utilizing a recently developed co-catalyst that consists of Pt nanoparticles supported on novel nanotube molybdenum carbide (Mo2C) (referred to as co-catalyst thereafter] and the ultrasonic spray technique developed by SonoTek Corporation.
