Aesthetic demands and new design flexibilities brought forward the laser technology in the past. Recently more benefits such as lighter and stiffer constructions, reduced process steps and high reproducibility resulting cost-savings have established the laser process even more. Heavily pushed by the automotive and the oil and gas industry, the diode laser technology accumulates experience in applications like hardening and repair welding for tools and dies used in the automotive as well as in the oil and gas industry. The simple and robust direct diode laser technology fully matches the requirements for these applications, competing with the diode pumped solid-state lasers, disk and fiber lasers.
