PremoMet~R is a Co-free alloy designed to have high strength and high toughness properties after quenching and tempering. Considered as a possible substitute for production of components as gears and flanges, better fatigue life is expected for this material when it is compared to AISI 4140 and AISI 8630. Production of gears and flanges can be performed by open-die forging and ring-rolling. Optimal properties are achieved by control of alloy microstmcture, where heat-treating procedure is a key factor. Representative seamless rings were produced considering standard industrial conditions. Such rings were segmented and segments were exposed to selected heat treating conditions of quenching and tempering to evaluate microstructural evolution and mechanical properties promoted. In this contribution tensile, hardness and toughness properties are reported. Microstructural evaluation is complemented with SEM observation.
