Previous studies suggested that the activation of root hydraulic conductivity (Lpr) could be involved as part of the mechanism of action of humic acid (HA) in cucumber plants. In addition, Lpr activation in plants is linked to abscisic acid (ABA) biosynthesis in root and HS is able to increase ABA root concentration. In consequence, it is possible that the HA-mediated increase in Lpr is expressed through ABA-dependent pathways. Here, we analyze these relationships by the evaluation of the effect of an inhibitor of water uptake, polyethylene glycol (PEG) and an ABA synthesis inhibitor, Fluridone (Fld) on the HA effect on both Lpr and plant growth in cucumber.
