The objective of this paper is to show how do different states of chromatic adaptation affect on colour opponency and so on colour discrimination. In the detailed experiment subjects accomplished the Cambridge Colour Ellipse Test under different states of adaptation provided by coloured filters. Mathematical simulation of the colour opponent functions was executed in order to validate the results of the measurements and to understand the effects. As analysis two three-way ANOVAs were executed. The variables were the length of the small and the long axes of the colour discrimination ellipses in order to show effect on red-green and yellow-blue opponency. Both ANOVA states that the colour of the filters, hence the state of adaptation affected significantly the variable. As a conclusion it can be stated that the examined filters affected both red-green and yellow-blue colour opponency. Regarding red-green opponency both improving and worsening effect was detected.
